Full Description: Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 2009 - Unless you had been Nader on the planet over the last few years, you knew the Chevrolet was brewing up an uber-Vette. Amidst all the hype, spy photos, leaked photos (and prosecution), rumors, and the names (Blue Devil, SS, Sting Ray, Z07), a dolt could discern that the new Corvette had the potential to be amazing.
During his annual press preview of the Detroit auto show, GM showed journalists what we have all been waiting for; official, almost ready-to-production 2009 Corvette ZR1 intended to hit showrooms next September.
Tom Wallace, chief engineer of Corvette, the presentation began with talk about what has launched ZR1. For our group of reporters gathered, he referred to a meeting that took place more than six years, but GM chairman Rick Wagoner asked what a $ 100000 Corvette look and perform like. In contrast to the current situation where Corvette maximum speed is reached in the fifth speed, an estimated speed of over 200 mph for the ZR1 come in sixth. Wallace noted that "A change of procedure that we had to do was make a ditching standard 200 mph with a top speed of 220 mph unit, because if this car will easily exceed 200."
His pride was evident. He added later that this combination is cost should be enough to avoid the gas-guzzler tax. No specific performance figures were cited, but Wallace said the ZR1 could easily beat the current Z06 performance of 3.7 seconds to 60 mph and the car 7:42-second time around Nurburgring. A member of the team noted that in its current form, the first gear is good for 67 mph, an indication of the new and the cycle of capacity LS9 rev.
With so much power comes heat, so the ZR1 has increasingly large chillers and heat exchangers for all components. A huge front spoiler with an air separator helps to channel all the right places. Side threshold extensions are similar to what was used on the race car C6R. The side vents feature a large bowl of tile that opening.
Chassis-wise, Magnetic Ride Control (MRC) is standard. Almost from the instant response of shock absorbers allows softer spring rates, and GM claims the ride of the ZR1 is more consistent than the current Z06. Tire size increases at both ends, with 19-inch tires in the front and 20-inch wheels at the rear sports 335/25Z/20 Michelin PS2s. Wheel widths are 10 and 12 inches, respectively.
Are huge disc brakes carbon-ceramic units that are clamped by six-piston Brembo calipers at the front and four-piston at the rear. The rear discs are as great as the finding on other fronts supercars. Hard metal used on the Z06 were provided for comparison on a table-top display, and were significantly heavier. Of course, lighter and unsprung rotating mass is critical for the improvement of every aspect of performance.
The Corvette development team took the weight of the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 2009 wherever possible. Carbon fiber is widely used, even on panels exposed to strong UV radiation, as the roof and the roof pillars. (Apparently, UV breaks down the components connecting with carbon fiber, which makes the brittle material in as little as five years.) GM, the solution is a clearcoat that rising costs $2000/gallon.
According to the Harlan Charles, Corvette Product Planner, ZR1 will be offered in seven colors and offers two wheels (chrome). The standard ZR1 include similar equipment within a standard Z06, and there will be a big option package similar to the 4LT which includes full leather-wrapped interior. If the prices of 2008 models provide any indication, the RPO costs about $ 8000. Charles also noted that because there is only one set of tools for the production of carbon fiber body panels, the annual production does not exceed 2000 units. Like the Z06 used red to highlight the main elements, the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 2009 uses blue accents on the LS9 and on the model of its logo.
